Welcome, and thank you for your interest in the Japanese Society for emergency life-saving (JSELS).

 

My name is Kensuke Suzuki, and I am honored to serve as the new President of JSELS.

 

Throughout my career as a paramedic, I have consistently believed in the importance of standing on equal footing—regardless of country, affiliation, or years of experience—to face life and death with the same mission and dedication.

 

Today, I hope to become a bridge between Japan and the global EMS community.

If our goals align with yours, we would be delighted to explore opportunities to collaborate. We look forward to hearing from you.

 

The following are the goals I will pursue during my two-year term as President:

 

 

■ Sharing Practical “Data and Insights” from the Society

 

We will build a system that allows paramedics to engage in research, share their findings, and bring knowledge back to the field.

 

Through enhancements to our ethics review framework, support for database-driven research, and match-making for collaborative studies, we aim to create a society where anyone can take the first step into research.

 

We also plan to establish a sustainable academic cycle by publishing articles on J-STAGE, releasing special issues, and producing practical “How-To” books.

 

 

■ Advancing Global Engagement and Recognition

 

The expertise and capabilities of Japanese paramedics are of world-class caliber.

Over the next two years, we will strengthen our international outreach through comparative studies of MCI/ICS protocols, shared educational methods, and collaborative sessions with overseas partners.

 

We will also actively pursue joint projects and research with other academic societies, elevating our visibility and cultivating an environment where young professionals and frontline practitioners can thrive.

 

 

■ Rebuilding Education and Communication

 

In collaboration with our Education and Training Committee, we are rolling out workshops focused on communication in emergency care across Japan.

 

We are also developing training programs that incorporate VR and 360-degree video to enhance decision-making and interpersonal skills required in the field.

 

During this term, we will create a structured curriculum covering not only communication but also observation techniques, clinical decision-making, and disaster response, making it accessible to all.

 

 

■ Strengthening Disaster Response and Practical Training

 

In recent disasters, the ability to respond quickly and make sound decisions has often been the deciding factor between life and death.

 

Our society will provide realistic training based on diverse disaster scenarios, with a focus on fields such as “medical care under rubble” and “disaster logistics.”

 

We will also work to build systems for cross-organizational collaboration during emergencies—sharing information and distributing roles effectively.

 

JSEM-T aims to serve as a hub for building networks that enable cooperation among communities, governments, and multidisciplinary professionals, even in non-emergency times.

 

 

■ Creating a Society That Feels Like Home

 

FY2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the founding of JSEM-T.

 

We will use the commemorative academic conference in October as an opportunity to reflect on our achievements and share our future vision with society.

 

Through initiatives such as introducing organizational membership, enabling online participation, and strengthening support for young and female members, we aim to build a society where everyone can feel proud to belong.

 

Throughout this term, we will also continue to host open roundtable discussions on practical topics including community-based care, heatstroke, and the use of AI in EMS, creating opportunities for people of all backgrounds to exchange ideas.

 

 

Regardless of your background or experience, we believe that all paramedics should have a space to learn, grow, and contribute together under a shared professional identity.

 

Let us continue to unite science with practice and enhance our collective ability to save lives.
